PS5 jailbreak: frequently asked questions

Answers to common PS5 jailbreak questions: Relapse firmware support, payloads, HEN, rebooting and checking homebrew compatibility.

Last updated

What is a payload?

A program sent to an ELF loader after the jailbreak chain runs. It can provide a service, report console information or perform a specific task.

What is a HEN?

A homebrew enabler: a collection of patches and services used by homebrew. etaHEN and onionHEN are separate projects with their own requirements. Load your chosen HEN after running the jailbreak.

Is a native title the same as a payload?

No. A native title has an application identity and installation or registration workflow. Its runtime, permissions and dependencies can differ from those of a simple ELF payload.

Does the jailbreak survive a reboot?

No. Run the entry chain again after a reboot and reload the services your apps require.

Which PS5 firmware versions does Relapse support?

Relapse supports firmware 7.00–13.60 according to its maintainer’s guide. Choose an entry chain for your firmware, then follow the setup requirements for your homebrew apps.

Can I run Linux or Docker on 13.60?

No. Homebrew on 13.60 runs in the PS5’s FreeBSD-derived operating environment. Booting Linux would require a hypervisor exploit, which is currently unavailable for this firmware.

How do I check whether an app supports my firmware?

Look for your firmware in the project’s installation guide and release notes. Use the recommended loader, kernel patches and homebrew enabler for that release.

Where should I download things?

Use original maintainer repositories and their release notes. Record the version you choose. Keep loader and service endpoints on a trusted local network; do not expose them to the internet.

Check the original guidance

For firmware support and setup, read the Relapse maintainer guide. For payload loading, see the ELF loader documentation. The PS5 Developer Wiki explains the hypervisor boundary.
